Heart shaped Stone

Heart shaped Stone

Elizabeth 09/01/2019 0
There is the gift of the heart shaped rock, I first discovered one of these at a client’s house. I wasn’t aware that these existed and when I told a good  friend about my “discovery” she smiled and gave me a poem she had found  about them.  After my client died, while mourning her,  I went to the beach one day  and there in front of me – the first thing I saw on the sand was a heart shaped rock – it was as if she was saying that she was okay and everything was going to be all right.  So these heart shaped rocks for me personally have become something that is a thread that ties things together – helping us to be open to see things a little differently. All of these and many others are examples of the gifts that we are given as hospice volunteers, ones that I personally treasure and hold close to my heart...

A Purposeful and Meaningful Life

A Purposeful and Meaningful Life

Prof. Marty 05/07/2015 0
Live a purposeful and meaningful life; a life that helps others and advances the human lot. Die a purposeful and meaning death, not a hollow useless death. From the earliest age, when you talk with your children talk with them in rational discourse like mature adults.  When you play talk with your children in silly funny voices, do so in a logical, learning silly fun game, not nonsense. Respect other people.  Treat especially with respect those people who are not as well off as you.   Develop inner dignity and integrity.  Keep it inside.  Don’t make a stuffy, starched, and holier than thou show of it outside.  Let it simply be a matter of your own personal honor.  Those who announce it loudly lack it; those who hold it quietly within learn it. Mistakes you make are not faults of failures in your whole character.  Life is trial and er...

Exploration is Important!

Exploration is Important!

Heather 29/05/2015 0
If there’s one thing I’ve learned recently, it is that life should be about living, not existing. Exploration is a very important part of life. But people seem to spend all day, all month, all year in a routine they’ve created for themselves. Why? Why do humans have a tendency to become so predictable? Sure, they become comfortable and there’s nothing wrong with that. Except that there is. We have been granted this big, beautiful world, not only as our life source but also as our playground. We should not waste this privilege. It was during my first solo trip that I came to this realization. Sure, Hawaii is a typical vacation spot, but I planned to take advantage of all it had to offer, beyond the warm sand and blue water. Even in the short week of my life in Hawaii, I noticed a routine I was settling into. It is a hard habit to break, ...

My best friend

My best friend

Elizabeth 18/05/2015 0
I have a special relationship with my best friend, she is more like a sister than a friend. We met in preschool one day by chance. I came in from recess and I found her crying, and it has always been a part of who I am to make sure someone is okay. She told me she missed her mom, and I told her I did too, and I asked her to be my friend and to go play. Over the last two decades, we have shared thousands of laughs, smiles, tears, and hugs. She is my person to go to when things get tough, there is not a single thing I keep from her. Things have not always been easy, or simple, but the love we have for one another keeps us together through the fights, tears and heartbreaks of life. One thing that we know how to do well is laugh. It isn’t always easy to be 100% myself, criticism can be hard to take, but she has shown me by example how to be ...
